Building Dreams Soccer Weekend in Hamilton

On August 3, 4 and 5, the Special Olympics Ontario St.Thomas and District soccer team took part in the “Building Dreams Soccer Weekend” in Hamilton. Special Olympics Ontario teamed up with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and McMaster University to stage the event at McMaster University’s Alumni field with athletes in attendance from across the province. Prior to the tournament, the Special Olympic athletes took part in a parade around the field at Ivor Wynne Stadium before the Tiger-Cats kick-off against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday, August 3. The athletes sported their Hamilton Tiger-Cats T-shirts that had been presented to them earlier.

On Saturday evening, each athlete was presented with a commemorative medal by Tiger-Cats players, on behalf of Ontario Special Olympics, to recognize their participation in the event. Tiger-Cats players, cheerleaders and mascots made appearances at the tournament throughout the weekend.

St.Thomas won 2 of its 4 games with all of the players seeing lots of keen action, supported by family members from St.Thomas, Iona Station and Woodstock.
